Have you noticed people of means can get weekly massage, go to the best doctors that only take cash, eat organic, fresh food, and go to the best fitness centers? It's true- money can't buy health, but it can buy the things that are likely to get you there. They say most people are 4 paychecks or less away from disaster. Is this you? Money is the number one reason for divorce. A good financial situation is essential to holistic health.
I am concerned about people and their ability to buy good supplements, good food, and excellent fitness programs. I am concerned about how stressed people are about their finances. I have been reading a lot about finances lately, and Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, and even my own financial advisor encourage people to have multiple streams of income. I recently heard you need 7 different streams of income to be secure. That doesn't mean 7 different stocks and bonds, mutual funds, and Certificates of Deposit. It means 7 streams of passive income. Read "Conspiracy of the Rich" by Robert Kiyosaki if you wonder what passive income can mean to you.
Let's talk about passive income. You want to reduce your stress? Well, imagine this with me. Even if you lose your job tomorrow, with passive income at a rate high enough to meet your expenses, you won't care. Sound too hard? Does it sound like something only wealthy people can do? Not so.
Obviously, in order to invest money in the stock market, in real estate, or other business ventures, you have to gain some capital to work with. I'm not a financial planner, so I'm talking to you about some common sense stuff here.
First of all, do you have a household budget? If you have debt of any kind, I suggest you get a budget plan from your accountant, online, or get a good book. If you have credit card debt of any amount, make the decision today to get rid of it. Cut up your cards and go make that budget.
Self discipline is required to do this, but I want you to look at every expenditure you make that's not on food, rent, or utilities. These are as what Robert Kiyosaki calls a "doodad". A doodad is something you want but don't need to survive. Do you buy a coffee on the way to work? Make your own at home and drink it there. Do you buy your lunch every day? Brown bag it- it will be healthier and not nearly as expensive. How about movies? Rent a video instead. Look over your own expenditures and make a decision to get yourself out of debt totally as quickly as possible.
Next, your house and your car are doodads, not investments. If you can afford them, good. If not, you'll need to work on more income. So, you could get another job doing what you are doing now. Does that sound like fun? Probably not. I'd like to mention another possibility that has little or no buy-in cost and could make you a lot of money. Sound too good to be true? It's not. In fact, it's exactly what Kiyosaki, Trump, and many others suggest you use to build enough passive income to get out of the rat race and into a fun, exciting life. What is it?

Additionally, in these hard economic times, some communities are creating Healthy Living Centers, like my community in Yavapai county, Arizona. Click
here to see what's happening. We are working on a project that will, in part, enroll participants in a time banking program. In order to receive services, participants will contribute time, talent, or treasure. The exact process has yet to be worked out, but we were impressed with the work of the
University of Minnesota. We also plan to eventually incorporate a community garden, where participants can earn health care credits by working the field.
