What Are Bach Flower Remedies?

Dr. Edward Bach, M.D. practiced in England in the early 1900's. He intuitively was drawn to plants in his garden when he was feeling off balance. He created the individual remedies by soaking the flower, considered to be the part of the plant containing the most energy, in water, then preserving the essences in brandy. A "dose" of these remedies was to be a few drops on the tongue three or four times a day, depending upon the situation. The individual characteristic of each remedy was based partly on the old belief of early naturopaths in the "doctrine of signatures" and partly on Dr. Bach's intuition and experience.

The individual remedies can be used alone, or in combinations, depending upon the complexity of the situation to be remedied. Flower remedies don't treat physical ailments, but get to the underlying emotions and spiritual aspects of any difficult time. There are "type" remedies, which are directed at the individual's basic personality. There are positive and negative aspects of any personality type, and the Bach flower remedy brings out the best of it. There are also remedies for specific situations, such as extreme anger, grief, exhaustion, and shock.

Rescue Remedy, a Bach flower remedy for emergencies, is a combination of several remedies used in the case of an accident, bad news, a scare, or the like. Many people find it amazingly effective, especially in small children and animals.
Bach flower remedies are extremely safe, with no known bad effects, even if the "wrong" remedy is used. Since they are extremely well diluted and vibrational in their effect, there is no risk of allergic reaction, except possibly to the brandy they are preserved in, and even that is extremely small. Bach flower remedies are a useful addition to any healing regimen, and can be used in combination with any herbs, drugs, etc. safely.
